BiodiverCity promotes wildlife photography and filming as a means of an alternative economic activity within rural communities. The local photographers are employed during conservation projects to photograph or record video of species and conservation activities.
Meet the community photographers
Miguel: He is 18 years old and a very talented photographer who is privileged to live in the rainforest community of El Nopal where he is in daily contact with superb wildlife. He just finished High School and lives with his parents and younger brother.
Cesar: He is 25 years old. Cesar is a talented photographer, tree climber and patient wildlife video filmer. He has worked with BiodiverCity since 2014 and resides with his young family in ejido 24 de Febrero.
Juan Carlos: He is 35 years old and lives with his family in ejido 24 de Febrero. Juan Carlos is an enthusiastic conservation advocate, eco guide, bee keeper, tree climber and wildlife photographer. He has worked with BiodiverCity in many projects as of 2013.
In 2016, with the professional expertise of wildlife documentalist Erendira Hernandez, the community photographers joined to make BiodiverCity’s first short documentary exploring the changing relationship between man and the Uxpanapa rainforest.
