The Uxpanapa Rainforest is a prime area for serious research on tropical forest dynamics.
Our research projects have been centered in karst rainforests. Most of them are conducted in the last pristine tropical rainforest in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. This area is in the southernmost tip of Veracruz and is known as the Uxpanapa rainforest. This beautiful natural area, cut down to a 12,000 hectare fragment in form of a crescent moon (sometimes referred to as Media Luna) is greatly lacking in ecological and anthropological studies. As to date, we have conducted small research projects in the municipalities of Jesus Carranza and Uxpanapa, both pertaining to the state of Veracruz. Our intention is to gradually create a wealth of knowledge by inviting researchers to conduct and publish studies on the species and dynamic processes that occur in this limestone rainforest.
BiodiverCity’s main home is located in the ejido of 24 de Febrero, in the municipality of Jesus Carranza.
Each year, BiodiverCity researches specific topics in the Uxpanapa Rainforest and other rainforests close by.
Here is a list of recent studies. Click on any topic to read the article.
- Blue Crowned Amazon Parrot – in ejido 24 de Febrero, Ver.
- Slender Billed Wren – in town of Amatlan de los Reyes, Ver.
- Rainforest Trees – in ejido 24 de Febrero, Ver.
